PAT Testing (Portable Appliance Test)

The Health and Safety Authority provided its General Applications Guideline S.I. 299 in November 2007 on the back of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005. In document Section 81 outlines the specific requirements for PAT testing under the Act that impacts on you directly to ensure compliance.

ECS Safety and training use the Seward Apollo 600+. Our qualified Pat Testers deliver a thorough testing of all equipment through a logging, tagging, and reporting service which is compliant with the IET Code of Practice and current legislation. All tests carried out follow the Code of Practice for In-Service, Inspection and Testing of all appliances and S.I. 299 Guideline.

Full Visual Inspection

Full visual inspection and electrical testing of each appliance identifying any possible faults. Electrical testing will take place using some or all the following tests which will depend on the class of the appliance and Lead.

  • Earth Continuity
  • Wiring/Polarity
  • Protective Conductor Current
  • Touch Current
  • RCD
  • Insulation Resistance
  • Substitute/Alternative Leakage
  • Functional Check
  • Load

Faults

Any faults identified during our visual and electrical inspection will be brought to the client’s attention and a quote to repair and retest each appliance will be provided if required and include delivery to and from our workshop. Minor faults can generally be repaired onsite.

Appliance Tagging

Each appliance will have its own unique asset tag and a barcode added which is both waterproof and durable showing results printed on them so that everybody is aware that whatever appliance is being used has been full tested to the required standard.

These asset tags are automatically generated at the time of testing and provides full traceability to the reported data. These asset tags can be cross referenced against the test result reports.

Once all tests have been completed, they are uploaded to our Microsoft Access Database for reporting and storage services and all data is secured on our cloud-based storage system for data protection.

Certification & Reporting Documents

Once your appliances have been pat tested you will receive the following reports within 2 working days,

  1. Concise Latest Test Results
  2. Concise Test History
  3. Detailed Test Results
  4. Official certificate of compliance
